Heart Strings

 Easy Bias

Two fast methods to make the heart strings for this quilt include:
Method 1: Fold a 1 1/4" x 22" bias strip in half along the length wrong sides together. Sew 1/4" from the fold; trim the seam allowance to 1/8" (Fig. 1). Offset the seam allowance and press. Repeat for each strip.

Method 2: On the ironing board cover, mark a line 1.4" long with a permanent-ink pen. Mark a second line 1/4" long and parallel to the first about 3" away (Fig. 2). Insert a pin in and out, and then in and out again at both ends of the marked line (Fig. 3) so there is a 1/4"-wide opening under the shaft of the pin. Likewise, insert another pin at the second marked line.

Cut bias strips 1/2" wide by 22" long. With the strip right side down, fold the bias strip as shown and insert one end underneath the first pin and then the second. Pull the bias strip through the pins (Fig. 4), pressing the area between them.

Repeat for each strip.
