Playing With Photos

 Soft Blocks

Crazy patchwork surrounds photos of family members (include some of the baby, too) on soft building blocks that can be any size you wish. Cut a square of muslin, center a fabric photo near the center, then stitch odd fabric shapes around the photo to cover the muslin. With right sides together, sew a plain square to the crazy square, leaving an opening. Turn the square right side out. Make six crazy squares. Use a buttonhole stitch with embroidery floss to join the squares along their edges, forming a cube. Stuff the cube with polyfil just before you finish the last seam.

 Soft Books

A fun project for a young child just getting interested in books is the Soft Book for Baby. This cloth book uses a variety of techniques to create a fabric photo scrapbook that will be treasured for generations to come. For more information on the Soft Book for Baby, see the article of the same name in the premier issue of Quilt It For Kids.
