Peppermint Patty

 Assembly

Step 1

Wash and press fabrics. Cut the patches and borders listed in the materials and cutting box and shown in the rotary cutting diagrams.

Step 2

You can either patch piece or strip piece the Y blocks (nine-patches). If you strip piece, cut 1 3/4"-wide strips from white and pink prints. Join the strips to make bands 1 and 2 as shown in the diagrams. Cut the bands into units and sew together, using 2 units of band 1 and 1 unit of band 2 for each nine-patch block.

Using your preferred method and referring to the diagrams, make 100 Y blocks and 81 Z blocks.

Step 3

Referring to the partial quilt assembly diagram, join the blocks and D patches in diagonal rows. Press the seam allowances of every other row in the same direction. Sew the rows together. Add an E patch to each corner of the quilt top.

Step 4

Measure the quilt through the horizontal center from raw edge to raw edge and across the top and bottom. Using an average measurement, trim the shorter pink borders to this length. Matching centers and ends, sew one of these borders to the top of the quilt. Press the seam allowances away from the quilt center. In the same way, sew the remaining shorter pink border to the quilt bottom.

Measure the quilt through the vertical center from raw edge to raw edge and along each side. Use the average measurement to trim the long pink borders to this length. Add these pink borders to the quilt sides. Likewise, measure, trim, and add the green borders, shorter borders to the top and bottom and the long borders to the sides, pressing after each addition.

Step 5

If you'd like to use the Pumpkin Seed, Scroll, and Heart quilting motifs that Georgina used, download our Web Extra PDF file. Or lightly mark quilting motifs of your choosing.

Step 6

Layer the quilt backing, batting, and top. Baste. Outline quilt the Y blocks, B's, and the border seam lines. Quilt diagonal lines through the pink A's and quilt the marked motifs. Bind the quilt to finish.
