Lady's Choice
Assembly
Step 1
Wash and press fabrics. Cut the patches listed in the materials and cutting box and shown in the rotary cutting diagrams. The size of H's and the width of the inner red border have been altered slightly from the original quilt for ease of construction. To rotary cut the H's for the pieced border, make a template of the full-size pattern and tape it to the bottom of your acrylic ruler. Cut strips that width, and then cut the strips into squares (H's).
Step 2
Referring to the block diagram, make 48 blocks.

Step 3
Referring to the partial quilt assembly diagram, join blocks, E patches, and F patches in diagonal rows. Press seam allowances toward the E's and F's. Join the rows. Sew a G to each corner.

Step 4
Join 21 H, 40 I, and 4 J patches in units as shown. Press the seam allowances toward H's. Join the units to make a side border. Repeat for the
opposite side.
Likewise, join 18 H, 34 I, and 4 J patches to make the top border. Repeat to make the bottom border.
Sew a long red border strip to a pieced side border. Sew to the quilt. Repeat for the other side. Sew a short red border to the pieced top border. Sew to the quilt. Repeat for the bottom.

Step 5
Quilt as the quiltmaker did, using an allover meandering line with loops. Or mark the E, F, and G patches as desired. Layer the quilt backing, batting, and top. Baste. Quilt in-the-ditch around the block patches. Quilt E's, F's, and G's as marked. Bind the quilt to finish.
