Out of the Scrap Bag

 Assembly

Step 1

Wash and press fabrics. Cut the patches listed in the materials and cutting box and shown in the rotary cutting diagrams.

Step 2

Referring to the Flying Geese block piecing diagram, join 2 B's to A. Press seam allowances toward B's. Make 2 units like this and join to make a Flying Geese block. Make 54 Flying Geese blocks.

Step 3

Referring to the partial quilt assembly diagram, join 9 Flying Geese blocks to make a vertical row. Make 6 vertical rows.

Step 4

Matching seams and ends and noting the orientation of the A's, join 2 vertical rows as shown. Make 3 vertical row sets.

Step 5

Referring to the partial quilt assembly diagram, join the 3 vertical row sets alternately with 2 purple sashes.

Step 6

Matching centers and ends, sew the longer purple borders to the sides of the quilt. Similarly, sew the shorter borders to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Step 7

Referring to the border block piecing diagram, join 8 C's to make a border block. Make 44.

Step 8

Join 12 border blocks to make a side border. Make 2. Matching centers and ends, sew borders to the sides of the quilt.

Step 9

Join 10 border blocks. Sew a D to each end. Make 2 borders. Matching centers and ends, sew borders to the top and bottom of the quilt.

Step 10

Layer the quilt backing, batting, and top. Baste. Quilt in-the-ditch along the sashes, and meander across the blocks. Bind the quilt to finish.
