Contemporary Crazy Piecing

"Contemporary crazy piecing is a new twist on an old technique. I have found that it works very well for creating abstract landscapes such as my Big Sur. This workshop presents a simple project so you can try your hand at this style.

With this method, small pieces of fabric are sewn together to make new fabric. Then, using a template, the new fabric is cut into tessellating shapes and sewn together using traditional piecing techniques.

You can use any template shape that will tessellate, that is, fit together with itself to cover a flat surface completely, such as diamonds, triangles, or hexagons. The easiest shapes to work with are those with sides of equal length."
