Diamonds and Arrowheads
Assembly
Step 1
Wash and press fabrics. Use spray starch, if desired, to control bias stretching. Trace the fullsize patterns on the next page onto template plastic. Cut the templates out, being sure to label each with a permanent-ink marker.
Referring to the quilt photo, note that each block is made from 3 fabrics. In some blocks, the A's are the darkest value, and in other blocks, the B's are the darkest value. Cut the patches listed in the materials and cutting box.

Step 2
Referring to the block X piecing diagram, sew the patches into units as shown, and then assemble the units to complete the block. Make 32 block X's.

Step 3
Referring to the block Y piecing diagram, sew the patches into units, and then assemble the units to complete the block. Make 3 block Y's. In the same manner, refer to the block Z piecing diagram and make 3 block Z's.

Step 4
Join 5 block X's with 4 F's, 1 G, and 1 Gr as shown in the partial quilt assembly diagram to make row 1. Make 4 row 1. Then join 4 block X's with 5 F's, 1 block Y, and 1 block Z as shown to make row 2. Make 3 row 2. Alternating rows 1 and 2, join the rows.

Step 5
Matching centers, sew a short rust border to a short multicolor border. Repeat. Likewise, sew the long rust borders to the long multicolor borders. Matching centers and starting and stopping the stitching 1/4" from the corners of the quilt top, sew the short borders to the top and bottom of the quilt and the long borders to the sides. Miter the corners. Trim the seam allowances to 1/4" and press open.

Step 6
Layer the backing, batting, and top. Baste. Quilt in-the-ditch around the block patches and along the borders, or quilt as desired. Bind the quilt to finish.
