French Twist Binding

"This binding is a variation of the French binding that quilters have been using for decades. If you have never tried this method of joining the beginning and ending of the binding, you'll find it is a neat way to hide the start. Since I often make small quilts that don't need a wide sleeve, I have devised this method that results in two pockets that allow me to place small rods at the top and bottom of my quilt. The additional width of the binding on the back gives the quilt edges a little more substance. These additions help the quilt hang straighter, important for wall quilts that will be viewed closely."
