Fool-proof Applique

 Perfect Appliqued Circles

By Nancy Brenan Daniel

  1. From stiff paper or lightweight cardboard, make a template the size of the finished circle.

  2. Cut a fabric circle about 3/16" larger all around than the template.

  3. With a single thread, stitch close to the outside edge of the fabric circle with running stitches.

  4. Place the paper template in the center of the fabric circle and draw up the fabric, yo-yo style, around the template. Make a knot. Press.

  5. Position and stitch the circle to the background fabric.

  6. Cut a small slit in the background fabric, or cut the background fabric out from under the applied circle. Pull the paper template through the opening.
