Marie Webster called the block "Double X," Jinny Beyer created a pattern with it in her Blocks and Borders (EPM Publications, 1980 & 1986), but Laura Franchini made the design her own with gradations of the blacks and pinks and oriental-style fabrics she loves. The quiltmaker from Wisner, Nebraska, won a blue ribbon for the quilt at a show sponsored by the National Quilting Association.
