Step 4
Sew the short black borders to the quilt, and trim the ends or miter.

Step 5
Referring to the border unit diagrams, make 88 border units and 8 corner border units. Sew 21 border units into a row as shown and add a corner unit on each end to complete the border. Sew to one side of the quilt. Repeat for the other side. Sew 23 border units in a row and add corners to make the top border; repeat for the bottom. Sew to the quilt.

Step 6
Add the next set of black borders, and trim or miter.

Step 7
Join a yellow J to a gray J to make a square for the next pieced border. Make 108 squares like this. Join 26 in a row, changing the angle of the seam in the center of the border. Sew to the side of the quilt and repeat for the
other side. Join 28 squares to make a top border, changing the angle of the seam at the center and the ends. Repeat for the bottom. Sew to the quilt.

Step 8
Sew the final set of black borders to the quilt top, and trim or miter.

Step 9
Mark your chosen quilting motif in the E and F patches. Layer the quilt lining, batting, and top. Baste. Quilt in-the-ditch around the patches, along the sashes and borders, and on the lines. Bind the quilt to finish.
