Serendipity

 Assembly

Step 1

Wash and press fabrics. Cut the patches listed in the materials and cutting box and shown in the rotary cutting diagrams. The D patch is not a rotary measurement.

Step 2

Referring to the block piecing diagram, make 72 blocks. Note that the fabric placement for the patches in each block is consistent, but light and dark values vary randomly from block to block.

Step 3

Referring to the partial quilt assembly diagram, join 9 blocks to make a block row. Make 8 block rows.

Step 4

Join 27 A's to make a sash row. Make 9 sash rows.

Step 5

Starting with a sash row, join block and sash rows, alternating types, ending with a sash row.

Step 6

Join 33 A's to make a side border. Make another border like this. Sew to the sides of the quilt.

Step 7

Sew the long blue borders to the sides of the quilt. Sew the shorter blue borders to the top and bottom.

Step 8

Layer the quilt lining, batting, and top. Beth's quilt was machine-quilted in an allover pattern, or you may quilt in-the-ditch around the patches. Bind the quilt to finish.
