The Quilt of Caring

The Quilt of Caring will be displayed in the offices of Metro Denver's Rape Assistance and Awareness Program, bringing a message of concern and hope to clients of the center. Donations for the quilt raised nearly $12,000 for the program's services including its 24-hour rape crisis hotlines, victim advocacy, counseling services, abuse prevention training, personal safety skills classes, and community outreach. Founded in 1983 by three friends of a rape victim, RAAP has helped more than 380,000 people in Colorado. The 74" x 74" quilt was designed and stitched by Mary Leman Austin and machine quilted by Reneé G. Howell; the names of contributors or their designees were embroidered on the quilt by Emilie Leman. For information on RAAP or to make a donation, write to P.O. Box 18951, Denver, CO 80218; 303-329-9922; email raap@raap.org; website www.raap.org.
