Dear Editors,
My son Daniel's fourth-grade teacher, Mrs. LaGrange, asked me if I would teach quilting to his class as part of "Pioneer Heritage Days." Together with my husband, Mike, my mother, Leona, and two quilting buddies, Sally and Verena, we made Flag Quilts using a pattern from Kids Can Quilt by Barbara Eikmeier. The children hand pieced and hand quilted their projects. The quilts turned out great, and we had such a fabulous time that no one wanted to go out for recess!

Dear Editors,
My mother, Hazel Jerabek, is 92 years old. She is known as "the quilting lady" at her church and regularly wins ribbons at our county fair. Her eyesight still permits her to make tiny stitches, but arthritis in her arms and shoulders has made it more difficult.
We have devised a method to allow Mother to continue quilting. I rotary cut the patches, and she pieces the blocks. I assemble the quilt top, pin baste, and then machine quilt in-the-ditch along the sashes. Then, we put the quilt in the frame and Mother hand quilts each block. This cuts her work in half and still gives her the personal satisfaction of finishing a quilt.
