QNM Quilting Bee

Quilting Bee

Dear Editors,

I made Schoolhouses & School Buses as a raffle quilt for my fiftieth high school reunion. The proceeds were donated to Randolph Central School in Randolph, New York, from the class of 1951. I used a photo transfer technique to put pictures of the school on some blocks that are interspersed with red Schoolhouse blocks. The school bus pattern came from Quick Quilts from the Heart by Liz Porter and Marianne Fons. Each classmate's name was sewn on one of the 59 buses in the border. I machine quilted the quilt and appliqued the bus wheels last because I didn't want to quilt over them.

I am a longtime QNM subscriber.

Schoolhouses & School Buses,
63" x 76", by Carol L. Novak.

Dear Editors,

Recently I tried to find one of Helen Kelley's columns that contained the phrase, "Lord, help me to keep my big mouth shut." I posted my inquiry to an Internet quilting bulletin board and found a wonderful lady, Alice Evanick, from Olympia, Washington. She also remembered the column and not only searched her complete set of QNM back issues for it but also emailed Helen Kelley. Alice located the article, Words to Live By, in issue 246, about the same time that Helen answered her letter. I have a big smile both on my face and in my heart--aren't quilters wonderful?
