Winners Selected in
Great Lakes, Great Quilts Contest

Milwaukee Memories, 104" x 104", by Bonnie Lippincott Gallagher of Sandy, Oregon.

Fabrics and designs from several quilts in the collection of the Michigan State University Museum were the inspiration for the Great Lakes, Great Quilts contest that drew international interest.

Using fabrics RJR Fashion Fabrics based on those in the antique quilts, and quilt designs inspired by those recorded in a book by C&T Publishing, the quiltmakers created their own versions of history. QNM was one of the four sponsors of the contest.

The contest judges included Marsha MacDowell, professor at Michigan State University, former QNM senior editor Jeannie Spears, and QNM senior editor Jan Magee. They met at the magazine's offices in Golden, Colorado, to rate the finalist quilts, and their unanimous selection for judges' choice and other entries will be shown in future issues of QNM.

Lake Ontario Fan, 63" x 79", by Kathy K. Wylie of Whitby, Ontario, Canada, won third place.
