News Notes

...Quilt inspires new fabric line...

An 1843 signature quilt from the Ardis and Robert James Collection at the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska, serves as inspiration for a collection of vintage-style fabrics. Working from the quilt My Sweet Sister Emma, FreeSpirit® Fabrics printed the grouping of paisleys, florals, and geometrics in a range of colors popular in the mid-nineteenth century, such as turkey red, chrome yellow, and deep chocolate brown. The fabrics became available in quilt shops and online early this year and proceeds will help support the work of the International Quilt Study Center.

...Printed words meet visual arts in exhibition...

Five contemporary textile artists will share their views on the impact of the printed word on their art in an exhibit of 38 pieces at the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles in California. Through March 16, visitors will be able to see the work of Patricia Autenrieth, Carolyn Dahl, W. Logan Fry, Susan Shie, and Robin Schwalb. For more information, contact SJMQ&T at 110 Paseo de San Antonio, San Jose, CA 95112; 408-971-0323; website www.sjquiltmuseum.org.
