News Notes

...New show added to lineup...

One of the best-known quilt show organizers has announced that the first Pan Pacific Quilt Show & Conference will be held April 2 to 4, 2004, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Workshops will begin on April 1. As they develop, details will appear on the website of Mancuso Show Management at www.quiltfest.com, and further information will appear in QNM at a later date.

...Guilty plea offered in bleaching incident...

Damage to two quilts on display at the International Quilt Festival in Houston last year has resulted in a six-month sentence in state prison for the defendant. In June, Kentucky quilting machine manufacturer Daniel G. Puckett admitted in front of a Texas State District Judge that he had deliberately splashed bleach on a quilt by Arlene Blackburn and damaged another quilt hanging next to Arlene's. The combined value of the quilts was $15,000. Arlene says she believes the vandalism was driven by Puckett's anger over the outcome of a lawsuit she filed against him and won in 2001 concerning the purchase of a defective quilting machine. Had Puckett been convicted of criminal mischief, he could have received two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
