Bureau Centennial Celebrated
with Quilted Tribute

Centennial Quilt, 18 feet x 8 feet, celebrates 100 years of water management by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation in the Pacific Northwest.

When you see Idaho potatoes, apples from Washington, and pears from Oregon in your grocery, your first thoughts may not be of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, but it is this agency that is responsible for meeting the water demands of the Pacific Northwest for its agriculture and domestic use.

To celebrate its hundred years of service, more than 60 employees, retirees, spouses, and friends created the Centennial Quilt, three panels that depict the growth and accomplishments of the Bureau of Reclamation. The 144 blocks in the quilt incorporate piecing, applique, embroidery, counted cross stitch, photo transfers, hardanger cutwork, and hand and machine quilting.

The quilt took four years to complete, and once finished, was displayed last year throughout the area before being permanently installed in the Pacific Northwest Regional Office in Boise.
