Not everyone will be able to attend the grand opening of the Quilters Hall of Fame this year, but many will be able to watch coverage of the history of the QHF and other notable aspects of quilting history in an hour-long television documentary to be filmed at the celebration in Marion, Indiana.
From July 15-18, 2004, quiltmakers will be at the Marie Webster house, headquarters of the QHF, to mark the completion of its restoration. Georgia Bonesteel announced during her induction into the Quilters Hall of Fame in July 2003 that she and a team from University of North Carolina Television will capture the dedication of the house as well as the overall history of some of the honorees and what they have brought to the quilt world. The program has not yet been scheduled, but Hazel Carter, founder and president of QHF, reminded quilters "to ask your local public broadcasting stations to air it."
Hazel continued her remarks by saying, "This documentary will make it possible to share the reality of QHF and the significance of quilting history with quilters and quilt lovers far beyond the boundaries of Marion, Indiana, or even North America."
The home of the quilt designer, quiltmaker, and author Marie Webster was turned over to QHF by Marie's granddaughter Rosalind Webster Perry, and restoration efforts began in 1992. For more information on the completion festivities, send an SASE to QHF Grand Opening, P.O. Box 681, Marion, IN 46952, or see the website www.quiltershalloffame.org.
