Museum Acquires Tribute Quilt for September 11th Victims

Freedom Quilt, 75" x 87", was coordinated by Marty Kishiro, president of Rasenkaidan, a Japan-based distributor of quilting books, magazines, and design software, with award-winning quilter Yasuko Saitoh.

After touring the United States for two years, a commemorative quilt made by Japanese students to honor the victims of September 11th has found a permanent home at The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, Colorado.

Award-winning quilter Yasuko Saitoh invited eight of her students to help her make the quilt. They assembled blocks with symbolic meanings from donated silk fabrics that Yasuko then incorporated into the whole. She used a free-motion stitch to add a message of sympathy in the center of the quilt.

The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum is one of less than 10 museums in the U.S. devoted exclusively to quilts. For more information, contact RMQM at 1111 Washington Ave., Golden, CO 80401; 303-277-0377; website www.rmqm.org.
