California Museum
Prepares for New Home

During its 27 years of existence, the San Jose Museum of Quilts and Textiles has moved six times, and when the opportunity arose to purchase an 11,000-square-foot building as a permanent home for the museum, action came swiftly.

"It took a community," says executive director Jane Przybysz, "to pull together enough funding to qualify for the matching funds promised by government and private investment, and we're still soliciting donations." In addition to contributions from individuals, quilt guilds, philanthropists, and corporations, the city has pledged more than $1 million to rehabilitate the downtown building on South First Street as a state-of-the-art exhibition, storage, and teaching facility.

"We are poised," says Jane, "to become the nationally significant institution the founders envisioned. Presently the museum sees more than 18,000 visitors and serves 10,000 children each year. The new facility will allow us to have concurrent exhibitions and on-site educational programs."

For more information on the museum, see the website www.sjquiltmuseum.org. For a pledge form or a prospectus, phone 408-971-0323 or email jane@sjquiltmuseum.org.
