News Notes

...Time to mark the calendar...

Set aside February 24-26 for the second biennial symposium sponsored by the International Quilt Study Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Entitled "Collectors, Collecting, and Collections," the programs will look at collecting quilts and related arts from a variety of perspectives, including psychological, aesthetic, historical, economic, anthropological, museological, and sociological. Participants can attend preconference tours of the IQSC's state-of-the-art storage facility, curator-led tours of campus quilt exhibitions, and other special exhibitions in the Lincoln area. For a description of programs and speakers, see the website http://quiltstudy.unl.edu, or contact symposium coordinator Kathy Moore at 402-472-7232; iqsc-symposium2@unl.edu).

...Machine quilting enthusiasts gain new show...

...Looking for schoolhouse quilts...

The Tokyo International Great Quilt Festival hopes to display an exhibition of Schoolhouse quilts from the nineteenth or early twentieth century at its fourth show, to be held at Tokyo Dome in January 2005. The exhibit will be seen by approximately 300,000 people over the nine days of the Festival. Exhibit curator Shelly Zegart is looking for interesting examples of Schoolhouse quilts in good condition. For your quilts to be considered, send a photograph (preferably jpeg) to zegrtquilt@aol.com or mail to Shelly Zegart, 300 Penruth Avenue, Louisville, KY 40207.
