Views of the Rocky Mountains, the pine forests, and herds of elk were afterthoughts for many when the Colorado Quilting Council unveiled the members' quilt show, one of the many events during its Quilt Colorado in June in Estes Park. The biennial symposium invites 20 of the best-known quilting teachers to each event and attracts an international audience of quilters. Quilter's Newsletter Magazine supplied the top prize money for Beloved Sunflowers by Bea Mansanarez, a quilt selected from one of 13 categories that CQC members could enter. Shown below is Omoide (Memories),
55" x 55", by Vivian Ritter of Evergreen, Colorado, winner of a judge's choice award as well as second place in the mixed pieced/applique small category. Vivian, QNM's senior pattern editor, collected the taupe fabrics during a trip to Japan. For information on Quilt Colorado 2006, watch the website www.coloradoquiltcouncil.com.
