Virtual Quilt Show Expanded

Neither maker of these quilts from the Jonathan Holstein Collection is known, but both quilts were probably made in Pennsylvania. Log Cabin (above) is 64" x 72" and Eastern Star (right) is 40" x 33".

With Internet access, quilt lovers can now view more than 1,600 images from the International Quilt Study Center's online database at http://quiltstudy.unl.edu.

Nearly 400 quilts from the Jonathan Holstein Collection were recently added to the system, including 58 quilts that were shown at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 1971, more than 100 Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and Midwestern Amish quilts, and additional pieced and applique quilts and related materials, such as the two quilts shown here.

The database already contained images from 930 pieces in the Ardis and Robert James Collection, 156 quilts in the Robert and Helen Cargo African-American Quilt Collection, and 90 items in the Sara Miller Amish Crib Quilt Collection. Among other attributes, visitors to the database can search by pattern name, quiltmaker, location of origin, date, and predominant technique used.
