The Quilters Hall of Fame celebrated its grand opening in 2004, and now the organization looks forward to its annual celebration at the former home of Marie Webster in Marion, Indiana, from July 14 to 17.
During Celebration 2005, noted quiltmaker, historian, and author Bets Ramsey will be officially inducted into the QHF Hall of Fame. A 40-year retrospective of her work will be on exhibit in the Carnegie Gallery at the Marion Public Library from July 14-17, and her small-format quilts created from the fabric stash of another honoree, Florence Peto, will hang at QHF from July 5 to July 17.
Other exhibitions scheduled include a showing of wall hanging-size reproductions of antique originals from the American Quilt Study Group's Two-Color Challenge, on display at QHF from July 5 to October 31.
Time Began in a Garden is the theme of this year's QHF quilt competition, and selected quilts will hang at the Marion Public Library from July 14-17. Entries are due by May 16 and may contain any design pertaining to a garden. At least 50 percent of the top of the quilt must be made with fabrics from the Bannister Hall Summer House chintz fabric collection developed by award-winning quiltmaker Xenia Cord and printed by FreeSpirit Fabrics, one of the contest's major sponsors. The fabrics were shipped to quilt stores and online retailers beginning in January 2005.
The other major sponsor, Quilter's Newsletter Magazine, continues its support of QHF by supplying the $500 prize for the first-place winner.
