Preparations Underway for
Third English Festival of Quilts

The Festival of Quilts 2005 will present galleries of works by individual artists such as Kaffe Fassett. Shown is his Square Clamshell, 67" x 93".

Nearly 18,000 people from 44 countries attended last year's Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, England, a 50 percent increase from the show's debut in 2003. This year, as word of the quality of the show continues to grow, organizers are predicting an even larger turnout.

From August 18-21, in Halls 7 and 8 of the National Exhibition Centre, guests can expect to find nearly 1,800 quilts with numerous individual white wall gallery exhibits from internationally recognized quilt artists such as Joan Schulze, Kaffe Fassett, Pauline Burbidge, Charlotte Yde and Gwenfai Rees Griffiths.

In a contrast of old and new, 12 leading British quilters will display their contemporary pieces inspired by items from The Quilters' Guild Heritage Collection. The 16 member countries of the European Quilt Association will provide an overview of quilting on that continent, and winning quilts from the eighth Quilt Nihon Exhibition will allow guests a glimpse into the world of Asian quiltmakers.
