News Notes

..."Cool" New Location for VQF...

Visitors to the Vermont Quilt Festival this summer will have more to celebrate than just the show's 30th birthday. For the first time the quilts will be on display in air-conditioned surroundings at Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction and St. Michael's College in Colchester, just 1.33 miles apart. Show organizers promise "no hills!" and a continuous shuttle between the sites as well as plenty of on-site parking. The show is scheduled for June 29-July 2 and will feature a special award for the quilt that best exemplifies this year's theme,"Stars of Vermont." www.vqf.org

...Postcard Quilt Update...

We first reported on Virginia A. Spiegel's "Fiberart For A Cause" project in the December 2005 issue of QNM (#378). In addition to the money raised for the American Cancer Society by Internet sales of the 4" x 6" postcard quilts donated to the project, Virginia used booth space donated by Karey Bresenhan of Quilts, Inc. to sell more of the small quilts at the International Quilt Festival/Houston in October. Sales in Houston totaled nearly $20,000, bringing the total to more than $33,000 raised in less than eight months for ACS. Virginia is now seeking donations of additional postcard quilts for sale at the International Quilt Festival/Chicago from April 7-9. www.virginiaspiegel.com
