'Over the Top' Theme
for Mile High City Show
The first major quilt show for Colorado in years will be open to visitors from May 4-7 at the Denver Merchandise Mart.
In addition to the competition quilts in the juried and judged competition, the festival–sponsored by Mancuso Show Management–will feature 11 regional as well as national special exhibitions. The Colorado Quilting Council will provide a showcase of works by its members from around the state, and Jean Roesler will add to the flavor of the event with her collection of quilts celebrating cowboys. "The Indelible Spirit," organized by Anne Copeland, brings stories of personal courage and triumph from artists who have or have previously dealt with challenges such as cancer, spinal or brain injuries, and other physical or mental problems.
Other exhibits include a collection entitled "Japanese Treasures," which features contemporary quilts that include antique kimono fabrics; and "A Black and White Tale" by Ann Fahl, whose quilts faithfully reflect a sign in her veterinarian's office saying, "No outfit is complete without some cat hair on it." Babs Robinson and Bette Lee Collins will share their quilts in the showcase entitled "Quilting Between Friends–California Style." Contemporary works by the Signature Art Quilters and the Art Quilt Association will round out the show. 215-862-5828; www.quiltfest.com
