Vermont Festival
Celebrates 30 Years
From its humble beginning in a church hall, the Vermont Quilt Festival has continued to grow and this year kicks off its third decade in new air-conditioned surroundings.
From June 29 to July 2, VQF takes over the Champlain Valley Exposition in Essex Junction and St. Michaels College in Colchester–about a mile away–offering visitors a variety of exhibits and classes.
Nearly 100 antique quilts will be on display in the exhibit "A Quilter's Galaxy." The quilts were chosen by curators Richard Cleveland, Priscilla Hatch, and Donna Bister from the Vermont Quiltsearch Archives. The exhibit "Historymakers" offers a timeline of the festival through a showcase of winning quilts from its contests over the years. Also featured will be "East Meets West," quilts from a small group of Japanese quilters who will be visiting VQF for the first time.
In honor of its 30th birthday, VQF invites quilters to make and send a postcard quilt for a special exhibit at festival. The postcards will be offered for sale, and all proceeds will benefit two children's charities, ABC Quilts and the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 802-485-7092; www.vqf.org
