Festival Honors
Another Silver Star

A luncheon with a showcase of her new work will celebrate the talent of Caryl Bryer Fallert on November 2, at the International Quilt Festival/Houston, but Caryl will be honored officially as the 2006 recipient of the Silver Star Award at a dinner on Saturday, November 4.

The annual award from Quilts, Inc. singles out a living quiltmaker who has made a lasting and positive impact on the fields of quilting and textile art.

In announcing this year's recipient, Karey Bresenhan, president of Quilts, Inc., cited Caryl's contributions as an art quilter, designer, teacher, and lecturer who has influenced many quilters and has "raised the bar everywhere on quilts as art."

The first Silver Star was awarded to Bonnie Leman, founder of Quilter's Newsletter Magazine. Subsequent recipients include Jinny Beyer, Virginia Avery, Jean Ray Laury, Yvonne Porcella, Donna Wilder, Roberta Horton, Georgia Bonesteel, Nancy Martin, Elly Sienkiewicz, Marti Michell, and Katie Pasquini Masopust.

Caryl has received numerous honors during her career, including having one of her quilts voted one of the twentieth-century's 100 best American quilts, but she says she was "awed" to learn of her selection for the award. "The other winners include some of my early teachers and role models. I am deeply honored and hope that my work and my influence will inspire others to find and share their own creativity." bryerpatch.com
