News Notes

Quilts around Town Returns to Chester, Vermont...

The community of historic Chester, Vermont, is preparing for Quilts around Town, a three-day event that honors quilts and quiltmaking. This year's event will take place during Mother's Day weekend, May 11-13. Viewer's choice awards will be given to four of the many quilts that will be on display at local businesses, and several quilters will demonstrate a variety of techniques throughout the weekend. Suzanne Ashe, owner of Country Treasures quilt shop in Chester, has organized Quilts around Town for more than 10 years. Each year, proceeds from a raffle quilt are donated to a community member in need. 802-875-4377

Westminster Fibers Buys FreeSpirit Fabrics...

On January 8, Westminster Fibers/Rowan Fabrics in Nashua, New Hampshire, officially became the new owners of FreeSpirit Fabrics. Details of the acquisition are undisclosed. Donna Wilder, who founded FreeSpirit in 2000, will consult with Westminster through International Quilt Market May 4-6 to ease the transition. Westminster Fibers, who produces fabrics designed by noted artists Kaffe Fassett and Amy Butler, announced that FreeSpirit, who produced fabrics designed by Denyse Schmidt, Laura Wasilowski, and others, is a "great match for us" and will benefit retailers and their customers. westminsterfibers.com
