France Hosts
Patchwork Meeting

Sainte Marie aux Mines, France, will again host one of Europe's largest quilt shows September 13-16 at the Val d'Argent Expo. Last year, approximately 13,500 visitors attended the European Patchwork Meeting. Show organizers hope to top that number this year by offering 30 exhibitions, 12 fashion shows, and 120 European and American vendors. The theme for this year's competition is "A Garden Passionately."

Special exhibits will include patchwork and embroidery from Afghanistan and, for the first time in Europe, work made by Egyptian tent makers. In addition, Amish quilts from Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Ohio will be of particular interest, as the Amish movement was founded in Sainte Marie aux Mines in 1693. The 1,800 members of the Spain Patchwork Quilt Association will attend to represent Spain, the event's guest-of-honor country. patchwork-europe.com

A Tribute to Dior and a Homage to Liberty, 43" x 55", 2006, by Sophie Strohmeier of Mosman Park, Western Australia, won first place at the 2006 European Patchwork Meeting. The theme of last year's competition was "Fashion–the Reflection of an Era."
