Quilts, Inc., the producer of International Quilt Festival and International Quilt Market, has announced that the 2006 edition of Patchwork & Quilt Expo, held in Lyon, France, was the last. The biennial expo debuted in Salzburg, Austria, in 1988 with the goal of encouraging the development of quilting in European countries. Since many countries are now researching their own patchwork traditions, and since it is no longer uncommon for European museums to host exhibits of both traditional and contemporary quilts, the producers feel they have accomplished that goal.
Quilts, Inc., has also announced the addition of a third annual International Quilt Festival in the U.S. The Long Beach Convention and Entertainment Center in Long Beach, California, will host the inaugural event July 25-27, 2008. Although the new festival will include many of the same features attendees have come to expect from the Houston and Chicago festivals, organizers will introduce new features unique to the Long Beach festival in order to give it its own identity. quilts.com
