Calligraphy Alphabet
Quilting Guide

Denise Clausen's Quiltmaker's Workshop in the January/February 2005 (#369) issue of QNM explains a technique for creating Quilted Calligraphy. Large cursive letters are written directly on the quilt sandwich with chalk and used as a guide for quilting. The chalk is removed when quilting is finished, and the letters or words are incorporated in your quilting stitches.

This technique will make almost any writing look elegant, and draws viewers in for a closer look at what might not be obvious at first glance. The PDF file contains one calligraphic alphabet guide. Feel free to improvise! There are thousands of typefaces and examples of handlettering available all around.

Complete directions for Denise's technique appear in the January/February 2005 (#369) issue of QNM. If that issue is no longer available at your local quilt shop, visit our online store at www.VillageQuiltShoppe.com to check back issue availability.
