Paper-pieced Border
The foundations in the downloadable PDF file are for paper piecing the outer border instead of patch piecing the D and E/Er patches as described in Heart's Desire in the July/August '05 issue (374). For each border strip, make 1 copy of the end unit and make 1 reverse copy. To make a reverse end unit, turn over the foundation and trace. Repeat to make an end unit and a reverse end unit for each border strip.
Make as many copies of the border unit as needed for each border strip. Refer to the issue for help with determining the number of copies to make. Note that you may not need to piece all of the red and black patches on one of the border units to get the needed number for each border strip.
