Mitered Borders

When sewing each border to the quilt, begin and end stitching 1/4" from edges at corners. Press seam allowances toward the quilt top. Diagonally fold quilt top, right sides together, at one corner. Match border seam lines and pin in place through all layers. Place the straight edge of the ruler along the folded edge of the quilt top intersecting the final stitch in the border seam and extending through the border strip. Draw a line from the stitch to the outer edge of the border (Fig. 1). Align long raw edges of borders and insert pins at a right angle to the pencil line (Fig. 2). Sew along line to edge of border; backstitch ends. Trim the seam allowances to 1/4" and press open.
