Photo Finish: Visions

Numerous creatures inhabit a fantasy forest in this 82" x 83" quilt by Suzanne Marshall of Clayton, Missouri. She writes, "These beasties are friendly and make me smile. Does one have two heads? Is that a tail or a beard?" Inspired by medieval printers' ornaments found in a copyright-free Dover book, the quilt is entirely hand appliqued, embroidered, and quilted.

"The biggest challenge," Suzanne adds, "was the borders. I wanted them to be different, yet look so similar it might not be immediately apparent." After two years of work, she completed the quilt in 2004. Photo by Mellisa Karlin Mahoney.
