Photo Finish:
In the Quiet
By Rachel Wetzler
We thought you'd like a closer look at the imaginary scene in Rachel Wetzler's quilt In the Quiet, shown on the Photo Finish page of QNM issue 389. It is the first quilt of a series that Rachel calls Simply Sensational–quilts that use architectural settings to highlight each of the five senses. "In the Quiet celebrates the sense of hearing–especially subtle sounds often lost in the clamor of life," she explains. "Hearing requires no effort but listening is purely voluntary." The room's accessories are fused, and shading was done with fabric markers.
Rachel, of St. Charles, Illinois, is an award-winning quilter whose work has been shown numerous times on our pages. You can see her quilts in QNM issues 336, 338, 339, 369, and on the cover of issue 380.
See Photo Finish in the January/February 2007 issue of QNM for a larger printed image of the complete quilt. If you missed that issue, order a back issue online at www.villagequiltshoppe.com.
