Starting with a Blank Slate

The back of Irena Bluhm's Hummingbird is as impressive as the front. Irena used green thread to quilt flowers, feathers, and delicate hummingbirds onto a piece of white cotton with her longarm quilting machine. Then she colored the front of the quilt with colored pencils, using shades of red, green, and purple to bring the different designs to life. To see photos of the front of this quilt, turn to "Starting with a Blank Slate: A Colorful Whole-Cloth Quilt" and "Photo Finish" in the April 2007 issue of QNM (issue 391). If the April 2007 issue of QNM is no longer available in your local quilt shop, order a copy online at www.VillageQuiltShoppe.com.
