Beginner's Choice
In QN's November 2007 issue (397), a survey of "starter" sewing machines provided readers descriptions of nine new sewing machines recommended for beginning quilters. Bernina wanted to share a second recommendation, the Activa 230. This machine is similar to the Activa 210, having many of the same features, including the needle up/down and drop feed dog functions. The 230 offers 204 stitches, including zigzag, blind stitch, quilting stitches, and two alphabets. The manufacturer's suggested retail price is $1,549, but check for dealer promotions and shop around.
