Workshop: Of All Things
In the March 2008 issue of QN, Laura
Fogg told us about her inventiveapproach to making art quilts and theunusual, unexpected, and often weirdmaterials she uses.We wondered howLaura takes care of her artwork–how shepacks the quilts for shipping and howshe stores them at home. Here’s whatshe had to say:
Packing for Travel
When I make a quilt, I plan the placement
of bulky embellishments and fragile
fabrics. I don’t want these things to be
bent when I pack a quilt for shipping. I
fold my quilts diagonally, and stuff rolls
of tissue paper in the folds to prevent
creases. It’s important to make sure the
shipping box is big enough to accommodate
the quilt and padding without being
smashed.
Storage at Home
I store all my quilts hanging on a wall,
rolled right side out on a fat tube, or
lying flat on the bed in my guest room,
out of the sun. My guests sleep on the
living room floor.
