Aunt Martha's Maple Leaf Pattern
Set-in Seams for Patches and Units
The block presented here requires set-in seams. It is not difficult, but does require a special technique. This technique can be done on the machine, but some quiltmakers prefer to stitch these seams with traditional hand-piecing methods.
Study the exploded block diagram to determine what order the patches should be joined. In the diagram, the closer spaces between patches indicate the seams that are sewn first. The wider spaces indicate units sewn last.

Mark the sewing line on the back of each fabric patch. (The templates given here do not include seam allowances, however, the rotary cutting diagrams do.) Cut the patches with the 1/4" included.
