How to Choose Fabric
for Taupe Quilts
A Lesson with Yoko Saito

Follow along with Yoko Saito's lesson How to Choose Fabric for Taupe Quilts by taking a closer look at the fabrics Yoko uses.

These are some of the guidelines I use when choosing fabrics. I start by separating my fabrics into three groups--warm colors, cold colors, and dark colors--and then pulling from my stash of favorites to create a color arrangement.

Step 1

These are some of my warm colors with a variety different textures.

The five I selected (below, left) are similar, creating unity but not very interesting. I added some favorites. The blue-gray is nice because it makes the pink prettier.

The same fabric combination can give different impressions. Adjust the amount of each fabric to alter the look.
